Maeklong and Damnoen Saduak half-day tour: both markets before noon, then the afternoon is yours
This is the short version of a classic morning outside Bangkok, and the least expensive way to see both markets. The pre-dawn start is deliberate: by the time the heat and the coach parties arrive, the hard part of your day is already done.
At Maeklong the shops occupy the working railway line itself. Awnings are cantilevered over the rails, crates of chillies and mackerel sit a hand's width from the steel, and when the crossing bell goes the shopkeepers slide the whole lot back along runners built for the purpose. The train noses past at walking speed, the canopies swing out again behind it, and trading carries on. It is over in a minute or two, and it is worth the alarm clock.
Damnoen Saduak is a short drive further on. You take your own boat out along the canals, past hulls piled with mangoes, coconuts and grilled skewers, the sellers working from the water and the wooden shophouses leaning over the banks. There is time to walk the market on foot and buy something before the drive back. You reach your hotel around midday, which leaves the rest of the afternoon for Bangkok itself.

Sample Itinerary
Your English-speaking guide collects you at your hotel reception and you set off at once toward Samut Songkhram province, west of the city, while the roads are still empty.
The first stop is the market built along the railway line. You walk the track yourself and get your photographs as the train edges through the middle of the trading, with everyone stepping clear at the last moment.
Transfer to the nearby floating market. You board a local motorboat of your own to follow the main canals, watching the traditional sellers at their oars and the loaded hulls crossing in front of you.
A short stop to explore the market area on foot, buy handicrafts or try the local street food before the drive back.
At the end of the morning you are driven back to your hotel in Bangkok (the time can shift slightly depending on traffic).

Please also bear in mind that sea excursions by speedboat are usually not suitable for pregnant women or for people with heart or back problems. What happens in case of bad weather?
Safety is our priority. If weather conditions make an activity dangerous or inadvisable, the excursion will be:
- Rescheduled: we will try to move the activity to another day of your trip.
- Replaced: if rescheduling is not possible, we will offer an alternative activity of equal value.
- Refunded: if neither rescheduling nor replacement is possible, you will receive a full refund for the excursion you were unable to take.
Please remember that rain during the wet season rarely spoils an entire day. You will always be informed in advance of any changes.
What are the pick-up times?
All meeting and pick-up details are also stated in your final travel documents (which you receive about 3 weeks before departure).
- Time: pick-up is at 06:45 from your hotel reception. It is an early start, and it is what gets you to Maeklong in time for a train crossing. Please be ready at the agreed place at least 15 minutes beforehand.
- Pick-up point: in most cases the pick-up takes place directly in the lobby of your accommodation (if it lies within the areas covered by the service). If it does not, we will tell you the nearest meeting point.
What should I bring with me on the excursions?
For every excursion we provide a list of recommended items. In general, we always suggest:
- Suitable clothing: for example, long trousers and no low-cut tops when visiting the Grand Palace in Bangkok, light and breathable clothes for hot areas, a swimsuit, or comfortable shoes for light trekking.
- Protection: hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
- Hydration: water, especially on hot days.
- Vouchers and documents: where required, a copy (digital or printed) of your booking voucher.
Are meals or drinks included during the tours?
Not on this one. Lunch is not included and the morning is timed so that you are back in Bangkok around midday, free to eat wherever you like. Water and snacks for the drive are down to you.

Can I cancel or change a single excursion?
Yes, but specific terms apply. Cancellation and amendment conditions vary from one activity to another.

Are young children and infants allowed?
