Sangkhlaburi Moon Bridge Tour: Six Days Up the River Kwai to the Burmese Border
Six days and five nights that take you well past the usual circuit, up the River Kwai to the remote town of Sangkhlaburi. The route follows the places tied to the Thailand-Burma Railway, built during the Second World War at the cost of thousands of lives, and then opens out to the Mon Bridge, known to visitors as the Moon Bridge, the longest wooden bridge in Thailand.
From the temple standing in the water of the lake to the hot springs and the Erawan waterfalls, every stop connects you with the wilder, quieter side of Kanchanaburi province. It is a slow, full itinerary through misty ridges, old caves and the mixed cultures of the border.
The tour starts in Bangkok and runs along the Burmese border, ending with a free day in Bangkok before your onward transfer. You can use that last day to rest or shop, right up to the transfer to the airport for your onward flight or the next leg of your stay. On request we can fill it with optional excursions or a tailor-made extension.

Sample Itinerary
After breakfast you meet your guide and driver at your hotel reception at about 07:00 and set off straight away for Kanchanaburi province, the historic heart of resistance and remembrance. The day opens at the JEATH Museum, a moving reconstruction of the prisoner-of-war huts that lays out the hard reality of building the Death Railway. You carry on to the Allied War Cemetery, a place of deep silence dedicated to those who lost their lives here. Then comes the legendary bridge over the River Kwai.
After the included lunch at a local restaurant you board the local train for a scenic stretch of the Death Railway, running along the original wooden viaducts suspended between the rock face and the water.
At the end of the day you are transferred to your floating resort.
After breakfast you meet your guide and driver. The first stop is the Hellfire Pass Memorial, walking the cutting that prisoners carved out of solid rock by hand during the Second World War, a place that stays with you. From there you carry on to the Erawan waterfalls: you climb the seven tiers of emerald pools, where you can swim in clear water and rest in the middle of the tropical forest. Lunch included. Return to the resort.
After breakfast you meet your guide and driver. The day begins with Lawa Cave, an underground maze of stalactites and stalagmites built up over centuries. After lunch you start the drive north through increasingly wild country, up to Sangkhlaburi, a striking little town on the border with Myanmar.
You are up at sunrise for the Tak Bat ceremony: a long line of monks crosses the Mon Bridge to receive the offerings of the faithful, a moment of real devotion in which the saffron robes stand out against the old timber of the bridge. After breakfast you board a local boat to explore Khao Laem lake. You glide quietly past the floating villages to reach the submerged temples, old ruins that rise out of the water as evidence of the town that lies beneath. In the afternoon you visit the local ethnic community and the temple of Wat Wang Wiwekaram, whose architecture blends Thai, Burmese and Indian traditions, before a last sunset on the longest wooden bridge in Thailand.
After breakfast you meet your guide and driver. The journey back starts with a restorative stop at the Hindad Hot Spring, where you can sit in natural pools surrounded by greenery. You carry on to the Sai Yok Noi waterfalls, easy to reach and very photogenic. After a last local lunch the road continues to Bangkok through the farmland of the central plains.
Pickup at your hotel reception. The morning is free for a rest or for last-minute shopping. At the agreed hour you meet our staff for the transfer to the airport and the flight on to your next destination.

Do I need a visa to visit Thailand?
Entry requirements for Thailand depend on your nationality, so there is no single answer that applies to every traveler. As of August 2026, citizens of more than 90 countries can enter for tourism without a visa and are granted a 60-day stay on arrival, extendable once by a further 30 days at an immigration office. Travelers from other countries must apply for a visa before they set off.
Two requirements apply to almost everyone: a passport valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter the country, and the Thailand Digital Arrival Card, which you complete through the online form before you arrive.
Important: always check the rules currently in force for your own nationality with the Thai embassy or consulate in your country before you book, as regulations can change quickly. If you are unsure, ask us and we will point you in the right direction.
When is the best time to visit Thailand?
Thailand enjoys a tropical climate, but the seasons vary from one region to another:

What happens when I book the trip?
Once the final quotation has been confirmed, the procedure is as follows:
- Deposit: you will be asked for a deposit (30% or 50%), to be paid within 5 days in order to secure the services.
- Balance: the balance must be paid no later than 40 days before departure.
- Documents: no later than 3 weeks before departure, you will receive the complete itinerary with vouchers and confirmations.
Which payment methods do you accept?
You can choose between several options:
- Bank transfer: to a European bank account (in Euros) or directly to our Thai bank account.
- PayPal: payment by PayPal is also possible.
How can I buy cancellation and/or medical and baggage insurance?
Your Travel Consultant will recommend the best insurance partners for your needs. On request, we can book the policy on your behalf, with a small handling fee for managing the paperwork.
Do you also offer international flights?

What if I can no longer travel? (trip cancellation)
