Ang Thong Overnight Tour: One Night Inside Mu Ko Ang Thong National Marine Park

Every boat in the park turns for home in the middle of the afternoon. Stay, and the archipelago is left to the rangers, a handful of campers and you. The first day covers the same ground the day trips cover, the run out through the 42 limestone islands, the lagoon at Talay Nai, the climb for the view, snorkeling and kayaking in the bays, but it ends on Koh Wua Talap instead of back at the pier: a tent a few steps from the sand or a park bungalow, the sun going down over the water and a sky with nothing in it. The second morning is the reason people book this one. You walk up to the lookout for first light, when the air is still cool and the whole archipelago is empty, then paddle and snorkel around the island before the speedboat comes back for you in the afternoon. Park facilities are simple, not a resort, that is the trade you are making.

One night in the park Sunset, a full sky of stars and sunrise on the island, long after the day boats have gone.

Sample Itinerary

Pickup at your hotel reception between 7:30 and 8:30 and transfer to the pier, where check-in is at 8:45. The speedboat leaves at 9:00 and reaches Ang Thong Marine Park at around 10:00. The first stop is the Emerald Lagoon (Talay Nai) with its lookout, followed by the climb up Koh Mae Koh. A Thai-style buffet lunch is served in the middle of the day. The early afternoon is free for swimming, snorkeling and kayaking. Toward evening the boat reaches Koh Wua Talap, where you settle in for the night, tent or bungalow, with the sunset and the beach to yourself.

Early in the morning we suggest walking up to the lookout for sunrise, when the light is at its best and the air at its coolest. Later in the morning there is kayaking and snorkeling around the island, sea conditions permitting. In the early afternoon you meet your guide again (pickup is set for 15:00) and take the speedboat back. At the end of the day, transfer to Koh Samui and to your hotel.

The itinerary may change due to weather conditions or other unforeseeable circumstances.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the overnight stay on the island always guaranteed?

The overnight stay depends on authorization from the national marine park and on sea conditions. For safety reasons the park may not allow the night on the island in bad weather or a rough sea. We recommend checking the forecast in advance: if staying overnight turns out to be impossible, you will be told and we will look at the best alternative together.

Are the park entrance fees included?

No. The entrance fees for Ang Thong Marine Park (300 THB per adult and 150 THB per child) are not included and are paid directly on site, in cash. We recommend bringing the exact amount with you.

How can I tell whether an excursion is right for me?

Every tour and activity is described in detail in your personalised itinerary. For each excursion you will find precise information on:

  • Difficulty level: easy, moderate or demanding.
  • Duration: from half a day to a full day.
  • Requirements: minimum level of fitness, recommended age and accessibility.

Please also bear in mind that sea excursions by speedboat are usually not suitable for pregnant women or for people with heart or back problems. Travellers with disabilities should be accompanied by someone who can assist them when needed. If you have any doubts or specific requirements, your Travel Consultant is always at your disposal for personalised advice.

What happens in case of bad weather?

Safety is our priority. If weather conditions make an activity dangerous or inadvisable, the excursion will be:

  • Rescheduled: we will try to move the activity to another day of your trip.
  • Replaced: if rescheduling is not possible, we will offer an alternative activity of equal value.
  • Refunded: if neither rescheduling nor replacement is possible, you will receive a full refund for the excursion you were unable to take.

Please remember that rain during the wet season rarely spoils an entire day. You will always be informed in advance of any changes.

What are the pick-up times?

All meeting and pick-up details are clearly stated in your final travel documents (which you receive about 3 weeks before departure).

  • Time: hotel pickup is between 7:30 and 8:30. Please be ready at the agreed place at least 15 minutes beforehand.
  • Pick-up point: in most cases the pick-up takes place directly in the lobby of your accommodation on Koh Samui (if it lies within the areas covered by the service). Some remote areas carry a supplement of 400 THB per person (round trip). If your hotel is not covered, we will tell you the nearest meeting point.

What should I bring with me on the excursions?

For every excursion we provide a list of recommended items. In general, we always suggest:

  • Suitable clothing: light, breathable clothes, a swimsuit and comfortable shoes for the short climb to the lookout.
  • Protection: hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
  • Hydration: water, especially on hot days.
  • Cash: for the park entrance fees and for the meals not included on Day 2.
  • Vouchers and documents: where required, a copy (digital or printed) of your booking voucher.

Are meals or drinks included during the tours?

The Thai-style buffet lunch on Day 1 is included, along with water and soft drinks. Dinner, breakfast and lunch on Day 2 are not included and are bought at the park restaurant, which closes at 19:00.

If you have any food allergies or intolerances, please let us know when you book, so that we can inform our local partners in advance. A vegetarian option is always available.

Can I cancel or change a single excursion?

Yes, but specific terms apply. Cancellation and amendment conditions vary from one activity to another.

You will find the exact details for each excursion in the Terms and Conditions attached to your quotation. If you need to make a change or a cancellation, please write to us at info@thailandfantastic.com as soon as possible.

Are young children and infants allowed?

It depends on the activity. Some excursions, especially those by boat or those requiring physical effort, may have age or height restrictions for safety reasons. Any such restriction is stated in the tour description.

Please always tell us the exact age of every participant, children in particular, when you request a quotation.
