Into the Forest: Khao Yai National Park Tour from Bangkok
Khao Yai was the first national park in Thailand, established in 1962, and it is now protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It spreads across four provinces and holds a remarkable range of life: more than 3,000 plant species, hundreds of birds, and mammals that include the Asiatic black bear, gibbons, deer and a resident population of wild elephants.
The day starts at the southern gate, where a trail through the trees leads to the Heo Narok waterfall, the highest in the park, dropping around 150 m in a series of steps. After a stop at the visitor center to look at the local ecosystem, you set out on the main walk with a park scout who works in this forest. Nothing about the route is fixed: you agree the trail and the pace with the guide on the day, according to how much walking you want to do. Lunch is Thai food, eaten in the park.

Sample Itinerary
Pickup at your hotel reception. You leave Bangkok in a comfortable private vehicle heading north-east; the drive takes around two and a half hours, with the city giving way to farmland and then to forested hills.
You enter the park through the southern gate and start walking almost at once: a trail of about 1.2 km through the green leads to the Heo Narok waterfall, the tallest in Khao Yai, which drops some 150 m in a series of steps. The volume of water changes a great deal with the season, and it is at its most powerful in the rainy months.
Next you move towards the heart of the park for a stop at the visitor center. It is a useful half hour: the displays cover the plants and animals of the tropical ecosystem, and you learn to recognize the tracks and signs of the species you may come across shortly afterwards.
You then set out into the thick of the forest with an experienced local park scout. The strength of this excursion is that nothing is fixed: you and the guide agree on the trail and on how hard you want to walk, so it suits anything from an easy stroll to a proper hike. During the day there is a break for a Thai meal, surrounded by the sounds of the forest.
After a last look around and the final photographs, the drive back to the city begins. Arrival at your hotel is expected in the late afternoon.

- Refunded: if neither rescheduling nor replacement is possible, you will receive a full refund for the excursion you were unable to take.
Please remember that rain during the wet season rarely spoils an entire day. You will always be informed in advance of any changes.
What are the pick-up times?
All meeting and pick-up details are clearly stated in your final travel documents (which you receive about 3 weeks before departure).
- Time: we will let you know the exact pick-up time. Please be ready at the agreed place at least 15 minutes beforehand.
- Pick-up point: in most cases the pick-up takes place directly in the lobby of your accommodation (if it lies within the areas covered by the service). If it does not, we will tell you the nearest meeting point.
What should I bring with me on the excursions?

- Suitable clothing: for example, long pants and no low-cut tops when visiting the Grand Palace in Bangkok, light and breathable clothes for hot areas, a swimsuit, or comfortable shoes for light trekking.
- Protection: hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
- Hydration: water, especially on hot days.
- Vouchers and documents: where required, a copy (digital or printed) of your booking voucher.
