Away from the skyscrapers of Bangkok stand the remains of one of the largest and wealthiest cities of the ancient world. This private day tour works like a time machine back to the golden age of the Kingdom of Siam. You will see the most significant temple complexes of the Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site: from the towering pagodas of Wat Yai Chaimongkon to the famous Buddha head wrapped in tree roots at Wat Mahathat.
You will hear the stories of kings and battles while walking among the ruins of Wat Ratchaburana, and stand in front of the huge bronze Buddha of Wihan Phra Mongkhon Bophit. After a meal of real Thai cooking at a local restaurant, you will step into the art of the period at the Chao Sam Phraya National Museum, a treasury of original gold pieces that survived the Burmese sack of the city. Sample Itinerary
Pickup at your hotel reception. We leave Bangkok behind for a scenic drive north, ready to step into the glorious history of Ayutthaya, the former capital of Siam and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The day opens at Wat Yai Chaimongkon. The temple is striking, with its very tall pagodas (stupas) and rows of Buddha images in a deeply peaceful setting: a first taste of the spiritual weight of the old kingdom.
We move on to the symbolic heart of the old city. At Wat Mahathat you will see the Buddha head laced into the powerful roots of a tree, an image of resilience known all over the world. A few steps away stands Wat Ratchaburana, raised in 1424 to hold the ashes of two royal brothers who died fighting each other on elephant back for the throne.
We reach the royal palace complex. Here rise the three bell-shaped pagodas of Wat Phra Si Sanphet, the most important temple of the old capital, which later inspired the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok. We walk among the foundations of the Ancient Palace, razed in 1767, and step into the neighboring Wihan Phra Mongkhon Bophit, home to one of the largest bronze Buddha images in Thailand.
We stop for a meal of traditional Thai dishes at a local restaurant. Straight after, we turn to the Chao Sam Phraya National Museum. This is the high point for anyone who likes history: a strongroom of ancient objects, gold relics, fine jewelry and original carved panels from the Ayutthaya era.
We cross the river to the southern side of the island for Wat Chaiwatthanaram. This majestic temple, set on the banks of the Chao Phraya and clearly inspired by the architecture of Angkor Wat, is the perfect closing scene of our archaeological day.
We leave the ruins of Ayutthaya and start the drive back, crossing rural landscapes, green rice fields and small villages. At the end of the day you are dropped off at your hotel.

What happens in case of bad weather?
Safety is our priority. If weather conditions make an activity dangerous or inadvisable, the excursion will be:
- Rescheduled: we will try to move the activity to another day of your trip.
- Replaced: if rescheduling is not possible, we will offer an alternative activity of equal value.
- Refunded: if neither rescheduling nor replacement is possible, you will receive a full refund for the excursion you were unable to take.
Please remember that rain during the wet season rarely spoils an entire day. You will always be informed in advance of any changes.
What are the pick-up times?
All meeting and pick-up details are clearly stated in your final travel documents (which you receive about 3 weeks before departure).
- Time: we will let you know the exact pick-up time. Please be ready at the agreed place at least 15 minutes beforehand.
- Pick-up point: in most cases the pick-up takes place directly in the lobby of your accommodation (if it lies within the areas covered by the service). If it does not, we will tell you the nearest meeting point.
What should I bring with me on the excursions?

- Suitable clothing: for example, long pants and no low-cut tops when visiting the Grand Palace in Bangkok, light and breathable clothes for hot areas, a swimsuit, or comfortable shoes for light trekking.
- Protection: hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
- Hydration: water, especially on hot days.
- Vouchers and documents: where required, a copy (digital or printed) of your booking voucher.
