Surin Islands Early Bird tour: first boat in, snorkeling at Mae Yai Bay
Almost every boat that visits the Surin Islands leaves from the same stretch of coast, and most of them drop anchor within the same hour. The Early Bird departure gets there ahead of it: 04:00 from your hotel, 06:40 from the pier at Namkhem. The difference is not a slogan. The first bay of the morning is quiet, the water has not been churned by a dozen engines, and the fish are still feeding in the shallows where you can actually watch them.
The first stop is Mae Yai Bay, widely rated among the best snorkeling sites in Thailand for the spread of hard coral and the number of reef species over it. Later you walk through the Moken village with your guide. The Moken are a sea-going community whose life has been built around this archipelago for generations, and the visit is a conversation about how they live, not a show put on for visitors. Then there is free time on the white sand at Ao Chong Kad, a Thai buffet lunch under the trees at the park restaurant, and a second, longer snorkeling session in the afternoon. Your guide speaks English throughout, which matters more here than it sounds: the reef is shallow, the current turns with the tide, and the briefing before each entry is the part you want to understand. The tour runs on three fixed days a week, from mid-October to mid-May.

What should I bring with me on the excursions?
For every excursion we provide a list of recommended items. In general, we always suggest:
- Suitable clothing: a swimsuit under your clothes, something light to change into and comfortable shoes or sandals for walking on rock.
- Protection: hat, sunglasses and reef-safe sunscreen.
- Hydration: water, especially on hot days.
- Vouchers and documents: where required, a copy (digital or printed) of your booking voucher.
Are meals or drinks included during the tours?
