The Chinese-Thai Side of the City: a Talat Noi and Chinatown Morning Tour
Four hours in the history and the trade that shaped the Chinese-Thai community of the capital. The walk begins in Talat Noi, which is the least touristy and most photographed corner of Chinatown at the same time. The contrast here is what makes it: old engine-parts workshops spilling onto the pavement, shrines hidden behind them, and peeling walls covered in contemporary street art.
Once you have the lanes out of your camera, we move on to the Golden Buddha of Wat Traimit, a treasure whose real value stayed hidden for centuries under a shell of plaster. From the quiet of the temple we step into the opposite: the pace and the color of Sampheng Market, the historic wholesale street of Chinatown, where the alleys are barely wide enough for two people and everything from fabric to spices changes hands all morning.

Pickup from your hotel reception. Depending on what you prefer, we move between the stops either in a comfortable private vehicle or on local public transport, which puts you into the atmosphere of the city straight away and lets you get around the way people here do.
The walk starts in Talat Noi, one of the oldest and most photogenic Chinese quarters in the city. In this maze of lanes, where time seems to have stopped, old Chinese-Thai shophouses sit beside street art on peeling walls and long-established workshops crammed with engine parts. The mix is unlike anywhere else in Bangkok.
We move on to Wat Traimit. The temple holds a priceless treasure: a Buddha image cast in solid gold weighing 5.5 tonnes. What it was really made of stayed hidden for centuries under a layer of plaster, put there to keep looters away, and it came to light purely by accident in the 1950s.
The last stop takes us into the busiest part of Chinatown: Sampheng Market. This very long, very narrow pedestrian lane is the historic wholesale market of the city. Walking it is an experience in itself, a crowded and constantly moving corridor where everything is for sale, from fabric to spices, and where you see local trade exactly as it works.
After the market, and with a good sense of Chinese-Thai culture behind you, the tour comes to an end with a transfer back to your hotel.

What are the pick-up times?
All meeting and pick-up details are clearly stated in your final travel documents (which you receive about 3 weeks before departure).
- Time: we will let you know the exact pick-up time. Please be ready at the agreed place at least 15 minutes beforehand.
- Pick-up point: in most cases the pick-up takes place directly in the lobby of your accommodation (if it lies within the areas covered by the service). If it does not, we will tell you the nearest meeting point.
What should I bring with me on the excursions?

- Suitable clothing: for example, long pants and no low-cut tops when visiting the Grand Palace in Bangkok, light and breathable clothes for hot areas, a swimsuit, or comfortable shoes for light trekking.
- Protection: hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
- Hydration: water, especially on hot days.
- Vouchers and documents: where required, a copy (digital or printed) of your booking voucher.
