Krabi 4 Islands Longtail Boat Tour: the Slow Way Around the Archipelago
A longtail boat runs at roughly half the speed of a speedboat, and that is the reason to choose it. The engine sits at the stern, the propeller turns on the end of a long shaft, the hull rides low and close to the water, and the crossings between the islands become part of the day rather than something to get through: the limestone towers of the Andaman coast go by slowly enough to photograph properly.
The route takes in Phra Nang Cave, the shrine set into the rock at Railay beach; Thale Waek, the separated sea, where at low tide a strip of white sand surfaces and joins Koh Tup to Chicken Island so you can walk from one to the other; and a snorkeling stop over the coral off Chicken Island itself. Lunch is a Thai picnic or buffet in the shade of the pines on Koh Poda, in front of the sail-shaped rock, and the rest of the stop is free for swimming or snorkeling straight off the beach. The sandbar only appears with the right tide, which is why the order of the anchorages changes from one day to the next.

Sample Itinerary
Pickup at your hotel reception and transfer to Nopparat Thara pier. At the end of the day you are driven back to your hotel.
Off aboard the traditional longtail boat. The slow pace along the coast is what makes the limestone cliffs worth a camera.
Stop at Railay beach for the princess shrine, a cave the local fishermen still leave offerings in, set into one of the finest beaches in the world.
Time to take in the “separated sea”. At low tide you can walk the narrow strip of white sand that links Tub Island to Chicken Island.
Snorkeling stop in turquoise water. Among the coral heads and hundreds of reef fish you also get the angle on the rock that looks like a chicken’s head.
Landing on Koh Poda for lunch, served as a beach picnic or a Thai buffet. You eat in the shade of the pines with the sail-shaped rock in front of you. Afterwards the time is yours: swimming, snorkeling from the shore, or nothing at all.
Scenic run back towards Ao Nang and transfer to your hotel.

What are the pick-up times?
All meeting and pick-up details are clearly stated in your final travel documents (which you receive about 3 weeks before departure).
- Time: we will let you know the exact pick-up time. Please be ready at the agreed place at least 15 minutes beforehand.
- Pick-up point: in most cases the pick-up takes place directly in the lobby of your accommodation (if it lies within the areas covered by the service). If it does not, we will tell you the nearest meeting point.
